November 18 – According to the latest report from the well-known Korean business media outlet, *Maeil Business Newspaper*, research findings from Wellsen XR have unveiled several new details about Samsung's upcoming XR (Extended Reality) glasses, attracting significant industry attention. This marks Samsung's first major announcement since Meta's smart glasses launch. Prior to this, Apple also announced plans to develop smart glasses that could connect to iPhones.
Additionally, the Samsung XR glasses are expected to feature a 12-megapixel camera and a 155 mAh battery, specifications nearly identical to those of the Ray-Ban Meta glasses (with a variance of within 1 mAh). However, the Samsung XR glasses will weigh approximately 50 grams, making them slightly heavier than the Ray-Ban Meta glasses.
Notably, the Samsung XR glasses may lack a display. In a report published in October, Samsung detailed the hardware specifications of the glasses but made no mention of a display. According to *9to5Google*, this is a strong indication that the Samsung XR glasses might not include a display at all. Maintaining a similar weight while using the same battery capacity as the Ray-Ban Meta glasses would be extremely challenging if a display were included.
The report also highlighted some of the features of the Samsung XR glasses, which include an integrated Gemini assistant capable of handling AI tasks and supporting functions such as "payments," "QR code recognition," "gesture recognition," and "facial recognition." Although the exact applications of these features are not yet clear, they suggest that this product may be more powerful than Meta's offering. Meta's smart glasses employ AI to conduct multimodal analysis using the camera, answer questions, scan QR codes, set reminders, and the company has hinted at a translation feature as well.
The report indicates that Samsung is intensively preparing for the release of these smart glasses, aiming for an official launch in Q3 2025, with an initial production goal set at 500,000 units.
Reportedly, the Samsung XR glasses will be equipped with the Qualcomm AR1 chipset, the same chip used in the Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses. It is worth noting that Qualcomm released a more advanced AR2 chip in 2022. Analysts believe that Samsung's choice of the AR1 chipset might be influenced by considerations related to product maturity, cost control, and market demand.
Details about the design, functions, and pricing of the Samsung XR glasses have yet to be fully disclosed.
