On August 20, Black Myth: Wukong, an epic Chinese game, was officially launched, setting off an unprecedented wave of public opinion. So far, Black Myth: Wukong has sold more than 3 million copies on Steam, and with other platforms, the total sales have exceeded 4.5 million copies, with total sales exceeding 1.5 billion yuan. Black Myth: Wukong has exploded in the global game market, setting a record for sales across all platforms, and may have achieved a return on investment on the first day of listing.
In its latest report, Goldman Sachs pointed out that the success of Black Myth: Wukong marks a major turning point in China's console game industry and is a key step for Chinese games to enter the international market. If estimated at a conservative 7x conversion ratio (conversion from concurrent users on the Steam platform to PC sales), the potential sales of Black Myth: Wukong on Steam may exceed 12 million copies, with an estimated revenue of more than 3 billion yuan. In a more optimistic scenario, sales may even reach 20 million copies, with revenue exceeding 5 billion yuan. This forecast does not include sales on other platforms.
Is NVIDIA behind Black Myth: Wukong?
As a game that pursues the ultimate visual experience, Game Science, the developer of Black Myth: Wukong, has worked closely with NVIDIA. Game Science introduced NVIDIA's advanced DLSS3 technology. This technology uses artificial intelligence algorithms to generate intelligent frames to ensure that the game can provide a smooth running experience while maintaining high image quality standards.
With the powerful support of the Unreal Engine 5, the game shows delicate light and shadow processing and realistic picture effects, bringing a strong visual impact to players. The game uses a carefully adjusted physics engine to vividly and realistically show the classic world of Journey to the West to players around the world, which is amazing.
Thanks to NVIDIA's cutting-edge technology, the game's graphics performance and technical level have been significantly improved. The application of panoramic ray tracing technology brings excellent lighting effects, realistic special effects and immersive experience to the game. In addition, the hair details of the characters in the game are extremely realistic, and the texture is so delicate that it can almost be touched, creating a gaming experience for players that seems to be in the real world.
Nvidia's official website wrote: "With the help of GeForce RTX 40 series GPUs, you can enjoy a more immersive experience in "Black Myth: Wukong." "It shows that Nvidia has made an indelible contribution to this game. "
Black Myth: Wukong" reversely promotes Nvidia.
In fact, Nvidia has been deploying this big chess game early. Long before, Nvidia also held an event to introduce the background story of "Journey to the West" to international players to increase the cultural connotation and appeal of the game, showing its attention and contribution to the promotion of Chinese traditional culture and the game industry. As "Black Myth: Wukong" is about to be released, Nvidia actively assisted in the promotion worldwide, and its investment in manpower and material resources even exceeded that of the game developer itself. The day after the release of "Black Myth: Wukong", Nvidia and the game participated in the world's largest game exhibition-Cologne Game Show, focusing on the performance of the game at the highest picture quality settings. Nvidia particularly emphasized that in order to get the most extreme gaming experience, players need to be equipped with RTX 40 series graphics cards that support panoramic ray tracing technology and DLSS 3 technology.
At the exhibition, Nvidia also announced 20 games that will support the same screen technology. At the same time, in order to further enhance the gaming experience of "Black Myth: Wukong", Nvidia also released a dedicated driver version 560.94 optimized for the game.
Nvidia welcomes its rival AMD with strength
On Monday, Nvidia's rival AMD said it had agreed to pay nearly $5 billion to acquire data center equipment designer ZT Systems. The addition of ZT Systems will greatly enhance AMD's competitiveness in the field of AI servers, especially its deployment capabilities in data centers. However, this move may have a negative impact on Nvidia. Nvidia once designed, manufactured and supplied server CPU motherboards for US cloud service providers through ZT Systems, and ZT Systems was responsible for system integration.
In response to concerns about competition, Nvidia CEO Huang Renxun emphasized the company's advantage in total cost of ownership, that is, the cost after taking into account indirect factors such as power and cooling requirements.
Nvidia (NVDA.O) shares surged on Monday as investors shook off stiffer competition from peer AMD (AMD.O). Nvidia shares closed up 4.4% at $130 for the day. The stock closed up 1.4% on Friday. Nvidia shares rebounded from recent lows below $100 as investors bought ahead of its Aug. 28 earnings report in hopes that it would maintain its recent record of beating analyst expectations by a wide margin.
Ben Reitzes, an analyst at Melius Research, maintained a buy rating and $160 price target on Nvidia shares in a research note on Monday. "With the potential to deliver more than $270 billion in free cash flow over the next three years, Nvidia should be able to return a significant amount of cash to shareholders given this surge in cash flow," Reitzes wrote.
