1. What is odd lot?
In the context of stock trading, an odd lot refers to a number of shares that is less than the standard trading unit or board lot. The standard trading unit or board lot can vary depending on the stock exchange, but it is usually 100 shares.
For example, if an investor buys or sells 75 shares of a company's stock, it would be considered an odd lot. Similarly, if an investor buys or sells 120 shares of a company's stock, it will consist of one board lot of 100 shares and one odd lot of 20 shares.
Odd lot trades may be executed at less favorable prices than round lot trades. Some investors may also use odd lot trades as a way to enter or exit a position with less capital, or to avoid having to purchase a full round lot.
